The New Moon in Cancer this month will be exact on July 15th at 6:24PM PST in the USA at 23’42’’ and is signifying a major turning point in our relationships. If you find that specific degree (23 degrees, 42 seconds) in the sign of Cancer in your Natal Chart, you will see the area of your life that is calling for a renewal and new beginning. For me personally, it amazingly lines up minus one degree to my karmic North Node in Cancer, which verifies for me that a karmic cycle has come to completion in my life regarding an old relationship in my own life and it’s time to set fresh intentions and release what is ready to fall away so new beginnings may emerge. Astrology is so incredibly accurate that at times it will leave you speechless! You can check your own natal chart by going to the link on my homepage, www.alisonlessard.com, and printing out your personalized natal chart report to see what house this New Moon is lining up with (wherever Cancer is located) and where you’ll benefit most to direct this energy of receptivity to release old patterns and plant a seed for a new vision.
All New Moons are a time of introspection, an energetic doorway to a motherly stream of Yin (feminine) and receptive energy, and a time that encourages us to tune into our inner world and renew our intentions and our relationship with our own intuition, which is our most powerful (and often underutilized) guidance system. This New Moon happening in the sign of Cancer makes the motherly, nurturing energy even more pronounced, as the Moon is naturally ruled in astrology by this zodiac sign. Cancer is actually the first of the three Water signs (the others that follow are Scorpio and Pisces) and rules the 4th House of family, our home, our childhood roots, our subconscious and our psychological foundation. Cancer governs motherhood, the relationship with your mother or women in general, safety and security issues, fears, your emotional responses and feeling nature, the unconscious mind, instinct and deep intuition. What does this mean for you right now, you ask?
This New Moon beckons us to explore our relationships as they stand currently in our lives. What is your deep relationship with yourself? Do you even have a relationship with yourself or do you project all of your needs onto those around you? And how about with your partner/parents/children? How are you showing up in your relationships? Are you taking responsibility for your own emotions and reactions or are you pointing the finger in blame? Are you hiding from what’s been surfacing since Saturn went retrograde into the sign of Scorpio back in June? Saturn is dredging up all kinds of old junk from cycles that began back in 2012 to be acknowledged, cleared and released. Are you doing the work or going back into your shell and shying away from the truth? The energy of Cancer gives us the opportunity to see what we have still stuck within ourselves and what we are “stuck” with—in other words, what umbilical cords and with whom are they still connected that are ready to be cut to free yourself to move forward? This New Moon is also about renewing our relationship with self-care and nurturing of our innermost needs. Nobody will do this work for us and we won’t attract partnerships that are balanced until we create this wholeness within ourselves first. If anything feels like it’s missing at this time, that’s where you need to look and where you must fill your spiritual “cup”. This is a time of re-birth directly through your own focused intentions. This is also a wonderful time, with the Moon in Cancer, to spend reflective or meditative time through a body of water if possible or simply tune in to what that would feel like perhaps in a guided meditation, envisioning yourself next to a lake, stream, river or the ocean.
Cancer’s opposite sign in the zodiac is Capricorn, and as Cancer is the sign of nurturing, Capricorn is the sign of discipline, structure, hard work and perseverance. This is also your chance to see what sustains you, where you are feeling weak and where it’s time to wield your sword, embrace the warrior archetype and reclaim your power. Pluto, the planet of control/power/intense transformation, is forming a direct opposition to a Mars/Mercury conjunction in Cancer at this time, so somebody of that nature may act as a catalyst for you to experience powerful emotions that will lead to a grand realization about what you’ve been avoiding and what you must face at this time. It’s time to get to the heart of your wounds and allow yourself to be there, naked and vulnerable. That’s where the true healing begins. There is also a tight square between this New Moon and Uranus, which represents tension and a change that must be made. Uranus is unconventional and thinks outside the box. It also at times brings sudden, unexpected changes that we not be prepared for, but that must occur to shake us out of our old habits or routines. It’s time to get out of your comfort zone and try a new way of being, whether that be emotionally, mentally or tangible actions that you take in your day-to-day. Maybe what used to nurture us is no longer functional. It may not be easy to let go of familiarity, but if you want to move forward, you must be willing to step at times into the dark, the unknown and the uncomfortable to experience incredible shifts.
There are two beautiful ceremonies to do at the New Moon, depending on your desires and what you’d like to release and/or manifest in between lunar cycles as we move towards the next Full Moon this month on July 31st. The first of these is a NEW PRIORITIES CEREMONY. Follow the link below from the lovely Natalia Karoway, which includes making a list of where we are currently giving our energy, saving what we’d like to continue to manifest and burning whatever is no longer serving us.

The other is to set a sacred space by using a candle, crystals, tarot/oracle cards or whatever resonates most for you and writing a letter of what you’d like to manifest with clear, focused and direct statements. You then tuck away the letter in a safe place until the next Full Moon (July 31st), at which point you’d once again set up your sacred space and create a ceremony to burn the letter, releasing your intentions to the Universe to handle for you. The only steps you must take is hold a clear, focused intention and take some sort of action each day to move towards your desires.
